Re: Bento Openbox SalentOS cugino

Salut,

Ho iniziato cercando Salent0S in VirtualBox.

In Inglese:
The project of remixing Ubuntu with Openbox started for me in 2012. I had remixed PCLinuxOS with Openbox in the previous two years successfully. I thought Ubuntu would be a good basis to continue, and to help Windows users migrate to GNU / Linux.

As you know, when you know Openbox a little, the choice is obvious. It's light, it's flexible, it allows doing many things.

I arrived on the SalentOS community without knowing that you had specifically important pieces that I miss to make it even better. I started trying Salent0S in VirtualBox. I saw some very interesting things, especially I want to study your control center.

We launched a project Openbox Control Center, but if it already exists why reinvent the wheel? On your side, it could be that some parts we use in Bento Openbox could allow you to improve further.

In our upcoming projects there is the creation of a number of packages on the Launchpad PPA repositories, a Bento openbox-session (everything works using /etc/skel up to now, we wish to create a session and packages), and we want to include the UEFI etc. which is available in the current versions of Ubuntu.

Apparently SalentOS community does not speak too much English, and not French either? I'll try to find bilingual Italian Linux users to bring them in. big_smile

We can later make further comparisons, and if you can help me with some stuff that would be very neat.

I propose the downloads pages:

If you want to try, I suggest trying Bento Openbox Trusty (the latest). Up to you. If you want you can try the small version Vivid?

What do you think?

It's a good work. But It is not a complete openbox experience because it use lxpanel. It is smooth and light. A good work guys.

Hi gmstyle,

Lxpanel is there to comfort the Windows users, they feel good with this little piece of software. Then to have tint2 instead : open ~/.config/openbox/autostart with geany, or with mcedit, remove a # in front of tint2 and put it in front of lxpanel. I will appear at the top of the screen.

You can check here too:
https://gitlab.com/bento-openbox/bento- ... tostart-en

and a progress should occur in next versions where it might be possible to… do otherwise. This is just a matter of a new patch in Openbox which might land into the official repos at some time in the future (Mati75's good job there):

If you're interested I can explain more. (obsession comes with 3 binaries, though next 2 only… and a new package needs to be done).

Else! And not least! You would be interested to know about the new tint2 coming next?
https://gitlab.com/o9000/tint2

you people have work! big_smile
https://gitlab.com/o9000/tint2/tree/mas ... nt2conf/po

I tried the newest tint2 wizard, it's really good! You might want to get in touch with the dev once tried, if you find features that your version brings and that his version does not bring. And the link just above leads to the translation files. What about an it.po for the next Tint2 Wizard?

About Bento Openbox, fyi, a friend tester found a bug in the laptop-mode-tool gui package. I have a bug report to do about it.

If you find anything that can be improved (apart from the choice for the panel), please let me know, I'm very interested to make it much better before going to the next step.

Else, have you noticed the openbox-menu effect?

Thanks and best regards,
Mélodie

I will be looking forward to your feelings about it. Have you tried the new tint2rc conf tool? I must say the one you wrote is quite good, while thought differently from the one done upstream. I think I will borrow it for Bento until the new tint2 is in the repositories. smile
